been taking the xo places lately: at the conference last weekend, xo made a tiny splash. self was overshadowed by the machine, and rightly so. the clip is from a youtube video someone cobbled together. well, ok, self's knee is lookin' good too...
spending some quality time with the xo lately: yumex ("yum install yumex", ~500kb) is a graphical yum front-end which is helpful digging through the repositories, already installed items, and available updates. still have to do something about...
so, y'know, i haven't done taxes, or even summarized cash flow from last year, and it's like one in the morning, so of course, being supremely rational, i decide it's time to install an http server on the olpc xo [1] . [2] your mission...
del.icio.us daily blog posting (an "experimental" feature since early 2005, or before) has been acting flaky lately; a couple other people have noticed too: 'daily blog posting' known issues? Daily del.icio.us links blog thingy busted...
.bqlist {margin-top: .5em;} something was itching at the back of my mind (no, i just got a haircut), something i was supposed to do in april... oh, that's right; i had signed up for a local .net "conference". gotta try and remember - april...
...in my aol communicator hacking. after changing all my aol type accounts to imap accounts as noted in the last post, i tried to add another non-aol account: wups - won't let you add any of those until at least one "valid" aol type account...
i was wondering what exactly aol meant by saying it was shutting off their communicator mail client . well, around midnight, it looked like this: [1] my pop3 accounts still look connected. and i know aol supports both pop3 and imap, not to mention their...
broadband, that is. check this out: nice site, by the way, if more than a bit bloated. and i swear they have some sort of memory leak there... anyway, the story gets more interesting when you look at the comparisons they have available: eh, downloads...

been spending some time trying to get this xo box more connected: remote desktop access ? i don't mean ssh or the like here, i'm talking something along the lines of vnc or rdp. there is some interesting info relating to this on the olpc wiki...
had a lot of flashbacks going back 10 & 25 years, to unix & dos times. i never really felt comfortable with a system until i could graphically browse the directory structure. getting around with cd & memory (that's "change directory"...
so it didn't take too terribly long to get this thing connected to my network, but i needed to dig around in their wiki first; i needed the mac address so that i could maintain security here. hey, if i had been just a little bit more of an experimental...
pi day ! craig: Sent: 2008.03.14 10:40:08 Eastern Daylight Time Subj: happy pi day! 3/14 http://www.piday.org/ me: first reaction: thank you sir, and same to you. second reaction (after seeing where that link goes): oh no - they've commercialized...
added ScottWater.CS.Modules ShareIt module to this site. interestingly, this two year old piece of code written for an older community server version (2.1) works just fine as is in v2007.1. csmodule config as follows: .tptext { color: #000000; background...
so there's this major technology player that has widely used services that have gotten a bit screwed up recently, and no one says a word - no announcement on the service's home page, no mention on the blog, and not even a response on their forums...
