    heh. good comments.
  • 2009.07.06 15:07: @snugbug
'k, "iffy" was easier to type :-p
  • 2009.07.06 15:23: telligentcommunity : licenses expire - ! holy cvrap
  • 2009.07.06 15:25: i'm only still tracking that product to see if/when they release an sdk, and how it compares to their practice with previous versions, if so
  • 2009.07.06 15:27: so i'm wondering: early this year, they released sp's for unspecified "critical security" problems, for cs2007 & 2008 ...
  • 2009.07.06 15:28: ... which, of course, most prudent users would have downloaded & applied - but there was a disturbing change in the "terms" that were req'd
  • 2009.07.06 15:28: ... those terms included a new provision that didn't exist for the upgrade versions themselves: an expiring license period ...
  • 2009.07.06 15:30: ... people squawked, but were told not to worry - but telligent wouldn't put it in writing. so i wonder -
  • 2009.07.06 15:31: - was that critical sp time-bombed ?? without any indication, of course. woe be to sp users, since they can't back it out ...
  • 2009.07.06 15:32: ... and it's doubtful that a license for the old version under the old terms can be acquired (since that would be the whole point of a bomb)
  • 2009.07.06 15:33: as for upgrading, i've heard terms like "heart attack" used when describing the prices for the new version.
  • 2009.07.06 15:42: @craigg75
@fractalnavel telligent, licenses that expire, oh my!
are you paying annual fees for any of your software? thought not. this shit is reserved for corp. nonsense- and it's new with tc
  • 2009.07.06 15:44: @craigg75
@fractalnavel telligent, licenses that expire, oh my!
it used to be that annual support contracts were for support, and the right to upgrade at the same license level, no add'l cost
  • 2009.07.06 15:44: @craigg75
@fractalnavel telligent, licenses that expire, oh my!
and if you didn't pay, you could continue to use your licensed version & features indefinitely
  • 2009.07.06 15:54: dreamt of a highschool girlfriend last night - one i hadn't thought of in ages. waking, i think: what would the years have added ?
  • 2009.07.06 15:55: and i think further: look what the years have added to me
  • 2009.07.06 15:57: @craigg75
@fractalnavel they dearly want to make Office subscription based.. but google docs for free is keeping that idea at bay
    no shit, eh? t.g.f.g. ?
  • 2009.07.06 15:58: lately it has seemed to me that the future of the internet is a locked down, corporate, everythingfor afee place
  • 2009.07.06 15:59: this is the golden age, folks - enjoy it while you can.
  • 2009.07.06 16:02: @craigg75
need to research upgrading our .NET remoting service to WCF
if you can't find write-ups, do your own, i'm curious. from my brief glimpse, it looked like a god-awful wrapper on webservices
  • 2009.07.06 16:04: @craigg75
@fractalnavel hmm.. from what I've been reading it's solid, burned in for a couple of years now
oh sure, solid, i suppose - but in my brief glance (and i mean that literally, over someone's shoulder), i got "ugly"
  • 2009.07.06 16:06: @craigg75
@fractalnavel hmm.. from what I've been reading it's solid, burned in for a couple of years now
then again - it could have just been that the particular usage i was looking at was what brought the ugliness to the table
  • 2009.07.06 16:09: @craigg75
@fractalnavel plus we need to move off of remoting.. not being supported anymore, might run into problems in future if we upgrade .NET again
oh, no - agreed, that's your path. just reporting on impressions.
  • 2009.07.06 16:15: midwestern suburban backyard that hasn't been touched in over a year: yeah, looks more like "jungle" than "forest".
  • 2009.07.06 16:15: i gaze at it curiously. it gazes back **wha..? jungles do that, y'know.
  • 2009.07.06 16:32: @craigg75
just caught somebody trying to hack our site using sql injection.. won't work since we use RO stored procs
first time you've seen that ? really ? wow. another popular attack: attempting to hack the asp.net viewstate
  • 2009.07.06 16:49: @craigg75
@fractalnavel we see it all the time, but it's fun trying to get the ip of the hacker.. without getting the iis logs I wasn't able to get it
eh, they don't usually lead anyplace interesting, if they're even valid / not spoofed
  • 2009.07.06 16:51: @craigg75
@fractalnavel we see it all the time, but it's fun trying to get the ip of the hacker.. without getting the iis logs I wasn't able to get it
i do remember, however, one of a customer's employees was running a personal site, and had apparently missed a security patch...
  • 2009.07.06 16:53: @craigg75
@fractalnavel we see it all the time, but it's fun trying to get the ip of the hacker.. without getting the iis logs I wasn't able to get it
... and got nailed by the sql bug running around. she claimed it was the IT dept's fault for recommending a vulnerable isp o_O
  • 2009.07.06 16:57: i'm really curious about a particular use of my gae app. but you can't just go to a user & say "hey- what are you up to ?" privacy, y'know
  • 2009.07.06 18:51: when are they going to invent a bathtub-proof book ?
  • 2009.07.07 00:52: irony: telligent.com communities down... ;-) i'm sure it's only temporary.
