Even if you love your job and feel pretty secure, you never know when you may need to send it out.
i've been telling people that for fifteen years

http://snurl.com/hjpb0 A trillion dollars in defense spending and we run from a pirate skiff? wtf?!
if we had a self-contained economy etc., we could act with impunity. but then, why would we bother ?

Yeah, I know you've said it to me several times. - and I listened. Mine has been mostly updated the past few years.
of course, you realize that i haven't kept mine updated, right? ;-p i've seen too many resumes which were just another way to lie

Just use Twitter as your resume. Post it 140 characters at a time. That would work great!
resumes are best for mid-career; almost useless for entry level, and worse than useless for very experienced. but hr has its for ...
  • 2009.05.07 20:42: twitter stupidness (of many, i know): 140 characters - but if you use 141+, the last four are replaced with " ..." for 136 total. morons.
  • 2009.05.07 23:03: wtf is a "reefer" truck? http://tmblr.com see what typo's get ya...
  • 2009.05.07 23:23: trial follow of @Wadester23 & @ShadowShaman; bit heavy on the post frequencies, but interesting phenomenolgy stuff; early for followfriday

I agree they are useless for entry level. What would very experienced use? HR types need something to "quantify" experience
fundamentally? references, demonstrable work product, interview by hiring mgrs. more like hiring a vendor, not an employee.
  • 2009.05.08 00:02: e.g., i'd prefer not to work with anyone who wants me to talk to hr droids first
  • 2009.05.08 00:03: this is probably why i see that happen to people passing mid-career. they seem to naturally become indie consultants
  • 2009.05.08 00:04: often, the jobs find them, not the other way around
  • 2009.05.08 00:04: yeah, a solid professional network is needed too
  • 2009.05.08 00:06: demands breadth of experience in many senses - single-cog-mindedness won't evolve
  • 2009.05.08 00:07: e.g. "programmer" v. "software developer" (with all its sub-disciplines)
  • 2009.05.08 00:08: i would prefer to provide prosspective customers with a collection of case studies, than, say, a c.v.
  • 2009.05.08 00:09: oh - and also, one's participation in the wider professional community - forums, blogs, whatever one's personal style is
  • 2009.05.08 00:10: sure, this is less amenable to droid-auto-handling, but that's the point - droid compatibility is a negative indicator
  • 2009.05.08 00:11: the goal should not eb "candidates who make hr's job easier"
  • 2009.05.08 00:12: i've seen what that leads to

Sure, all of that is much better than a life-less resume. Sometimes bypassing droids is harder than it seems.
yup; i've run into that. if the $$$'s not critical, i disqualify those
  • 2009.05.08 00:15: bottomline is there's ideals, then there's sucking it up

That does have me wondering if a twitter client can be written that shows things as a threaded discussion.
i got the rendering concept from tumblr.com
(pulled direct from twitter via custom job)
