via @fractalnavel: in the last 24 hours:
  • 2009.04.28 19:56: unclaimed property - they require a social security card copy - shoot - i have no printer, copier, or ss card...
  • 2009.04.28 19:57: "... You can replace your Social Security card for free if it is lost or stolen. However, you may not need to get a replacement card ..."
  • 2009.04.28 19:57: "... Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. ..."
  • 2009.04.28 19:58: ".. You are limited to three replacement cards in a year and 10 during your lifetime. ..."
  • 2009.04.28 19:59: after that, the official policy seems to be "if you suck up to us hard enough and we take pity on you, we might give you one. or not"
  • 2009.04.28 20:01: "How do I replace a lost Social Security card?" http://tinyurl.com/duyb
  • 2009.04.28 20:02: just how badly do i want a few hundred bucks ? hmm - ask me again when the oil runs dry & we're rioting in the streets
  • 2009.04.28 20:03: the kicker is that i sent them their forms three years ago, never heard back - guess it wasn't sufficient - but they don't tell you
  • 2009.04.28 20:03: maybe if i get bored later this summer...
  • 2009.04.28 20:04: "few hundred bucks"- i'm guessing, because they don't tell you that either. i could run around town for hours, and then end up with peanuts
  • 2009.04.28 20:05: @craigg75
history has many acts of physical acts of courage but few acts of moral courage
quote? that's because in the phys. case, you don't have to live with your failure. perhaps not true "courage", then.

Idiots! Put out those fires! I like hiking here, don't want the scenery ruined! RT @Cincienquirer: http://tr.im/jOV9 (Thanks @snixon)
nope, best to burn a little now, vs. a holocaust later. part of the natural scheme of things.

I wouldn't call a campfire-started fire "natural". Lightning strike? Bears playing with matches? Sure. Not a campfire.
human behavior is part of nature
  • 2009.04.28 21:06: re earlier of emergence of higher-order interaction in twitter use: the "missing features" lack corresponding low-order paths to emergence
  • 2009.04.28 21:07: so what might the lower-order feature(s) be ? enabling full-blown self-organizaton (as opposed to api use, a top-down thing) would be cool
  • 2009.04.28 21:10: it's also encouraging in that this demonstrates limiting factors to these phenomena - something to get our empirical teeth into
  • 2009.04.28 21:21: like him/his ideas or not, @cshirky can sure generate thinking. catalytical (?)
  • 2009.04.28 21:23: op's gushing aside, some worthwhile links here: http://u.nu/3f43
  • 2009.04.28 21:24: [hey, tumblr doesn't seem to recognize u.un urls]
  • 2009.04.28 21:24: [um - make that "u.nu". doh.]
  • 2009.04.28 22:09: argghh - dang it, gotta handle the case where underscores are embedded, not delimiters
  • 2009.04.28 22:10: re my daily twitter aggregation / blog posting, that is. thought urls with underscores would be rarer case than it is. blah.
  • 2009.04.29 02:30: @klaatu
OBAMA TRYING TO STRIP MILITARY OF PRIVATE WEAPONS http://bit.ly/28NJo
that would be a pretty loose interpretation of events. but something is going on - a sort of testing of the waters
