noticed that there was some cross-talk between the different behavior attachment instances in ff for my rss.htc behavior. this is the item controlling the display of rss item description content when you hover over an item. one parameter option is to tell the description which side to appear on - right or left. it seems that when i have a page that has both options configured for different feeds, the last feed to be rendered controls which alignment is used. or something like that.
this'll be interesting to figure out; i'm sure i'll get some cool new insight into cross-browser behavior implementation.
[/sarcasm]
aha - i had not properly declared the (element) global variable storing the the alignment property in the behavior implementation, so (i think) it was being treated as an expando property - on the bound element ? on the window ? on the document ? only the latter two cases make sense, since in that case it would have been a common value.
nope, that wasn't it. hmm... no, wait, that was it - dang browser caching.
*sigh*
finally gave in monday and just went & bought the last two books of tad williams' "otherland" series. i was intending to send back the first two to the niece i borrowed them from, along with a prepaid mailer so that she could send me the last two, but after never getting around to it...
anyway, they arrived sometime today, which will give me something else to procrastinate over my resume with.
i thought briefly about getting the last two "wheel of time" books, but apparently a 12th book will be released, so i'll wait for that and then get them all. such a shame, jordan's passing, as there were so many fantastic ideas in that set that unfortunately just got bogged down in their own richness.
you can get your recent amazon purchases as a feed now:
so i've got a good weekend of reading ahead of me. perhaps i'll sit at the local pub and sip on something as i do this. [self: yeah, that sounds good.] cool. since we're all in agreement, then - i'm we're off ...
finished updating my books list to account for the amazon web services changes and cross-browser operation. not too bad, a less than twelve hour job. i considered thinking about doing something new with this, but it's fine for now. i did refactor a few things that would make it easier to add other filtering options.
the one piece of information that is not present the same way as before is an "out of stock" indicator. i could have added something back for that, but eh, why bother.
i also no longer float the filter box at the top of the page as it scrolls, but again, no biggie.
noticed that aws has enough options now to do some things i was considering for a client. that's good news, assuming they ever get to that point. don't hold your breath.
so, that leaves the resume area, and perhaps some other odds & ends buried deeper that i'll root out eventually. after that, it's all new stuff, rearranging menus, updating appearance, etc.
huh - just noticed that amazon has a "favorites" section now. that's what i've been using my wishlist for, more or less, except it's not stuff i own, it's just things that i thought were interesting at some point. the "favorites" allows recent purchases and viewed items to be added, and it provides a widget for display elsewhere. well - i guess i've already had all this another way. and there doesn't appear to be a way of adding an item to favorites directly from a detial page, like there is with a wishlist.
also noticed that "shared purchases" is completely different. now only the last 4, 8 or 12 purchases can be shown.
i didn't notice if any of this newer stuff was available through aws.
anywho, getting to the end game of this round of site updates. they'll have to hold for a while. still have other sites to update, and then systems maintenance to do (like cleaning out old crap, backups, etc.)
maybe i'll reward myself with a new box after all this. besides the xo, i mean.
