  that is not to say that _all_ claims fall under such categories, but there is always a "me too" effect ("copy cat victims") when anything hits the media, especially, but not limited to the case, when there is a possibility of financial or other gain (such as reinforcement of centuries old anti-catholic sentiments).  it's things like this that disturb me about the media coverage of these things, and then the subsequent reactions of even intelligent people.  the psycho-social-political reality of such things is even more arcane than that of social security, but it gets even less critical review (partly _because_ of the arcaneness).
   
  so, even the partial presence of this effect can amplify the visible concern (catholic clergy) and mask corresponding concerns in other groups.
   
• speaking of logical fallacies, it was interesting (and flag raising) that the recent report on us intelligence condemned the crap out of it, but also specified in no uncertain terms that there were absolutely no political effect causing the failures. *ahem?*  - <cough>bullshit!</cough>.  so what of all the earlier findings by other groups ?  so, we have trumped up and politically constructed "evidence" to support the neocon agenda of centralizing and monopolizing the entire nation's intelligence assets - !
   
• not sure what's scarier, this, or the unimaginable international endorsement of wolfowitz for imf head pardon me - world bank president!
   
• finally, while i'm on peeves, i'll just mention the secretness of psychological testing tools.  yes, i understand the motivation, and yes, the exposure of some of these would invalidate them.  on the other hand, there's no way in hell anyone should have their future even obliquely affected by materials restricted to a self-selected cabal of "experts".
