Far out with Bill Maher

I'm not sure if any of you remember Bill Maher. He hosted the Politically Incorrect tv show awhile back. He got in trouble with a few untimely comments on September 11th and got censored off the air. I was never a big fan of Bill's political opinions, he leans too far to the left. But I did like his presence on airwaves against all of the right wing talking heads in tv land. Some of the time he actually made sense in his debates, which after all is what's to be expected from a proper debate -- throw your opinions, beliefs, 'lusions up against the wall and see if it survives. I thought it was a shame that the networks reacted the way they did to what he said about September 11th. Yeah he was off base and mistimed it but it still was just a personal opinion. What's wrong with this country anyway? Can't stand it when someone has an unpopular opinion? What has happened to our democratic and free speech beliefs? Are we that insecure with our own 'lusions that we eliminate anyone with a different viewpoint? Am I overreacting?

Anyway Bill is back on the air sort of... on HBO. He also has a web site with his blog. He's a different person in his blog, seems like it's an area for him to rant and cuss it up on whatever subject he's pissed about. Some of his rants are right on and some are well.. far out...

Battlestar Galactica ... please R.I.P.

So the SciFi channel is going to bring back Battlestar Galactica to TV. I never cared for the first incarnation that much. It was definitely one of the many children that the Star Wars movies gave birth to. The writing in the show was what I found silly, even at 15 years old. My beef about bringing back a campy scifi show is that why can't they (who are owned by CBS) bring on some fresh, original stories to TV? There's plenty of scifi classics out there in books just waiting to be brought to life on tv. I guess real scifi just doesn't sell unless you include vampires, wizards and magic potions in with it. Fantasy sells these days. I'm not naive either, I know tv shows are about selling commercials and demographics and Neilson ratings. If you're going to plunk down a good chunk of change you want some guarantee that there will some ROI. Baby boomer shows are the best bet it seems these days to make that happen. So if we want to see any “new“ movies we get to watch reruns like Cat In The Hat with Mike Myers or The Six Million Dollar Man with Jim Carey. Doesn't anyone in Hollyweird have any balls anymore to try something new and original? I guess this is why I never see movies anymore and have lost faith in Hollyweird. See you at the foreign film festival!

Past apologies

Chris sent me this link --

Fijians Apologize for Ancestors Who Ate Missionary

Does anyone but me find this recent phenomena of apologizing for the past mistakes of ancestors a bit idioic? The blacks want the same thing for being held as slaves. Hello? What the hell is going on here? How is this suppose to help anyone? I know we aren't suppose to forget history or we are doomed to repeat past errors but come on there has to better way to do it! To me it's like arguing if fairies come out at night and make the flowers bloom the next day. I mean come on, are these apologies even fit for healthy adult relationship(s)? Oh I'm sorry that my cosmic foam formed protons before yours did. It's all relative Einstein, really. Give it up already. It's nothing but a major 'lusion people, except it and move on to your next 'lusion traffic accident.
